A fatal wrong-way collision on the Autoroute A8 early Monday morning claimed one life and caused major traffic disruptions along the French Riviera, forcing authorities to close sections of the motorway near Saint-Laurent-du-Var for several hours.
According to preliminary information, the crash occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. on July 6, 2026, on the A8 motorway in the direction from Italy toward Aix-en-Provence. Authorities reported that a motorcycle traveling in the wrong direction collided head-on with an oncoming passenger vehicle, resulting in a violent impact.
Emergency officials said the force of the collision threw the motorcyclist into the opposite carriageway. The rider suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
