BRITISH COLUMBIA — A fatal crash on the Sea to Sky Highway (Highway 99) early Monday morning resulted in the death of one person and forced the closure of the busy route near Deeks Creek, causing significant traffic delays for commuters and travelers between Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler.
According to authorities, the collision occurred in the early hours of July 6 near the Deeks Creek area and involved a motorcycle and a recreational vehicle (RV). Emergency services, including police, firefighters, paramedics, and highway maintenance crews, responded quickly after receiving reports of the serious collision. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
Due to the severity of the crash, Highway 99 was closed in both directions while first responders secured the area, assisted those involved, and investigators began documenting the scene. Traffic quickly backed up for several kilometers as motorists were left waiting or forced to seek alternate routes. Officials warned that delays would continue for several hours while recovery operations and the investigation remained underway.
Investigators are now working to determine what led to the fatal collision. Police are expected to examine the vehicles involved, roadway conditions, physical evidence from the scene, and statements from witnesses. At this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, weather conditions, or mechanical issues played any role in the crash.
